Rain Rain Go Away. . .

Sitting in Cary and having the morning's first cup of coffee. It's raining, which is a bit discouraging because it would be nice to be sitting out on the deck while reading this morning's paper and watching the family of geese who have taken up residency in the pond just outside of our son's yard. There's mom, dad and three brand new siblings. Family appears to be doing well despite the fact there's a snapping turtle the size of a hub cap that also calls the pond home.

I'm here dog-sitting while the kids are in Washington DC. I'm also here to try for a few caches in between letting the dog in and out; another reason why the rain is a kick in the butt. Hoping the forecast is correct and the showers ease up as the day progresses. Clear skies are not only good for one's psyche, but also a definite aide to satellite reception.

In the meantime it's a good opportunity to log the caches found yesterday while on the drive over.

1. Wally's World but not Always
2. The Not-So-Ok Corral
3. Mission1: "Thunderball"
4. How do you Stack up?
5. A Low Score
6. Old Post Office
7. Rocky Mount Mills

The rain continued throughout the day and temperatures dropped from the mid eighties yesterday to the mid fifties for today's high. All and all a miserable day for geocaching, but I made the best of it and managed to find ten. Most were P&Gs that allowed me to make mad dashes to and from the truck and to stay relatively dry, and to keep the log sheets dry as well.

Of course searching out P&Gs generally entails more than a few 35mm film canisters hidden under lamp post skirts. And there were a few of those, but overall it was a better than average group of hides. In fact I'd have to give the group a solid B and admit to a few surprises I didn't see coming.

However, without a doubt, the cache of the day was Out On a Limb. This was one of a few caches that didn't fall into the P&G genre. This cache I'd heard about thru the grapevine and had even taken the time to research it, though most cachers who had found it were keeping it pretty low key. The only thing I could really determine from the logs was that it was fun and NOT your everyday geocache.

Initially I had planned on doing it with my grandson, but I was on my way to Barnes & Noble and the route took me within a 1/4 mile of it. I couldn't resist and stopped in to have a quick look see. The rest is history. Without a doubt this is my all time favorite and I'll look back on it on the days where it's one 35mm film canister with a soggy log after another-a definite must if you ever get to this part of North Carolina.
